GOR GAI GULF : THE LAST MUD AND THE FIRST SAND
Mangroves are used as nurseries during the early life stages of numerous marine species. By hiding among the mangrove roots, youngsters are more likely to avoid predation from larger animals. Interlinking with the seas which host larger concentrations of marine species, mangroves serve as a critical source to replenish some of the ocean’s fish stock. This is the mating season of the ‘bruda’ whale, one of the iconic species of the Gulf of Thailand. The whales invite us to play hide-and-seek following the end of the storm and the skies welcome us onto the sea. We now have a unique opportunity to participate in the ways of life of the people of the sea. And we come to have a greater appreciation of the interdependent relationship between humans and nature, and the need to protect marine habitats and resources.
