Phetchaburi is situated in a premium geographical location. To the west, it borders a rich and fertile forest. Sloping down to low-lying land is the Phetchaburi River that nurtures all life. The monsoon winds travel in alternating seasons from both sides of the sea. Seashores mark the boundary with mud flats which are coastal wetlands forming in intertidal areas, leading to the first sands of the Gulf of Thailand. With plentiful properties concentrated in earth and water, the raw materials bear a uniqueness resulting in the distinctive qualities presented in local cuisine. The natural abundance of the zone provides the resources and materials used in the production of the tastes of sweetness, sourness and saltiness, leading to a food culture that few other places can match. On this trip, our Spirit of Asia team begins our adventure in the fields and palmyra orchards, in search of nature’s sweetness.
